The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: "If you feel no shame,
then do as you wish." (Bukhari)
Society is a reflection of the values we hold and practice. In our
so-called modern progressive world, "choice" and "me" are the
key provisions we have elected to pursue in this disposable society.
When Muslim marriage events were first started, it was a
struggle to get Muslim men to attend. Now, alhamdullilah, the
tide has somewhat turned, and more brothers are taking part.
However, quite disturbingly, certain perverse deviant tendencies
have emerged, especially amongst our so-called sisters in Islam.
Those brothers and sisters who register, pay online, commit
and actually turn up are examples of sincerity and seriousness
with regards to getting married. Similarly, those who can’t
attend but at least have the courtesy to contact the organisers
with sufficient notice, and not through a free last minute SMS
to cancel their booking, are also to be commended.
As for those who register but do not have the basic decency to
notify organisers that they will not be attending, they should
pause and reflect on their behaviour and self-attributed
“professionalism”. Worse still, those who loiter outside
venues waiting for participants to turn up in order to
“gauge the talent”, just like miscreants from the world’s
oldest profession, then this is totally despicable and
will not earn any blessings from Allah (swt). Spaces for
those who wanted to attend but couldn’t due to numbers
being limited are wasted. Potential money raised for
charitable projects is lost. But worst of all, the words
of our beloved Prophet (saw) in the aforementioned hadith
don’t seem to be enough of an admonition!
Seek forgiveness of Allah and change your behaviour. From
now onwards we will be drawing up a black list of those
who continue with such conduct, and will not hesitate
to post it on our website so as to make others
aware as well. You have been warned!
